Following an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering Simon Churchill has spent the whole of his working career in the Medical Electronics industry. His career has encompassed the development, design and specification of a wide range of medical electronic and surgical equipment, and he has broad experience in sales and marketing in this sector.

From 15 years until February 2008 he was a Director of Toby Churchill Limited, a world-leading British assistive technology company. During this time he developed symbol-based communication aids for non-literate people with speech disorders, and also a range of environmental control products. He was subsequently European Director for DynaVox-Mayer Johnson, the world's leading manufacturer of communication aids for people with speech disabilities.

This work has given him considerable experience across a broad range of assistive technologies encompassing communication aids, environmental control, computer access, and wheelchair control; and he is conversant with all the products available and how they can be interfaced to be operated under the control of a single switch by people with severe physical disabilities.

He has extensive experience of assessing clients with congenital disorders such as cerebral palsy, and also acquired disorders such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, cerebral anoxia, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Parkinson's Disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Multiple Systems Atrophy, etc. and is fully aware of the spectrum of physical, sensory, speech and cognitive impairments that may be concomitant with these conditions.

He is a former chairman of the Industry Association of the UK Assistive Technology manufacturers and suppliers.
